PHILANTHROPY

Doing good for others can be good for business.

Charity work is not only good for your community but also your business. Consumers are more likely to do business with a company who supports good causes.

What good deeds can your business do? Sometimes there's a natural link between a business and a charity. A builder or contractor, for instance, could make a donation to Habitat for Humanity, an organisation that makes it possible for low-income families to buy homes. A car dealership might make a positive connection with Mothers Against Drink Driving or contribute to a local school's driver's education program. Likewise, it's logical for a restaurant or food and drink store to donate to a local soup kitchen.

Try making a connection with your clients, if they love the outdoors consider making a donation that benefits Wildlife. If your customers are primarily young families, sponsor a youth organisation, you can also involve customers by donating a small portion of sales to charity.

Money isn't the only thing your company can do for charities. Sometimes a charity might be in need of your product or services. Contractors could offer to do necessary repairs at a local church, day-care, etc. Perhaps you are upgrading your computer system and have some equipment that no longer benefits your company but could be a cherished gift to a struggling charity, and restaurants could offer to cater a fundraiser for free or for cost.

Don't forget to offer your employees the chance to help, philanthropy helps us all feel better about ourselves and can make us realise how lucky we are compared to others out there.
